The Importance of Bible Study

I once heard Ralph state that studying the Bible is one of the most important things we as Christians could ever do. He felt that this was our love letter from God. He often said that if we were seperated from our loved ones and received a letter from them, we would read it over an over. We would gaze longingly at every word and memorize the letter from start to finish. We would think constantly of those who were away from us and pull out the letter often to remind us of them. Why is it that we so hestitently treat the Bible this way? We should hunger every day to quench ourselves of the thirst that only the Word can satisfy. We should share it with every one we come in touch with having the same enthusiasm that people in the states have when receiving a letter from someone who is away at war. We should be so bursting with anticipation over our time with the Word that it quickly becomes the highlight of the day. I admit that I need to replace more of my time in the Word and less time in the world. I need more time with the letter from my loved One and less time with the world that doesn’t love me. I need to draw closer to my creator than spend more time with idle creations.
